Hi guys! In this post I will show you what is a relay and how does a relay works.

First, we use a relay to have a less dangerous circuit.

How does a relay work?
When an electric current passes through the coil it acts like an electromagnet and attracts a movable piece of metal that closes two contacts.
If an electric current doesn't flow through the coil, the central contact stays joined to the contact in the left. Here you have a video which shows this:

In this video we have a different circuit and the relay works in another way:

When we give power to the relay, the central contact moves one time to one of the conctact. When we turn off the battery that gives power to the relay, the central contacts moves to the other contact.

EFFECTS OF ELECTRIC CURRENT

How are you? In the last post I published what is an electromagnet, but I didn't explain what are the effects of electric current and it is necesary. There are three effects that the flow of electrons through conductive materials (electric current) produces:

1. Heat
2. Light
3. Electromagnetism 

Why I surlined the last effect? There is one reason: thanks to electromagnetism we can make an electromagnet. 

What is electromagnetism?
When the electric circuit closes, it is transformed into a magnet and a magnetic field it's produced. There are two principles that are the basis of electromagnetism:

• All electric currents create magnetic fields (Oersted's experiment explains it).
• A changing magnetic field can produce an electric current (Faraday's experiment explains it).

Electromagnetic mechanisms:

An electromagnetic mechanism is any appliance that can use electromagnetic fields to produce electricity or convert it into mechanical energy:

1. Electromagnetic generators (transform mechanical energy into electricity):

• Dynamos consist of a magnet, inside which there is a coil ending in two separate semicircular conductors known as the commutator. The coil starts to spin, using an exeternal energy source, and an electric current is produced inside. They produce direct current.
• Alternators are similar to dynamos. The difference is that the collector is made up of two rings and each ring is in contact with a brush. They produce alternating current.

2. Electric motors

    A motor is a device that can transform electric energy into movement. It works on the principles of attraction and repulsion and they are similar to dynamos, although they work in the opposite way.

Transformers

We use transformers to increase or reduce the alternating voltage. They consist of two copper coils. If we apply an alternating voltage to one of them, it induces a different votage in the other coil so we can transport electric energy at high levels of voltage without losing too much energy.

Do you know the word electromagnet? Well, if you don't know what is it, I will explain it to you.

According to the website Wikipedia, "An electromagnet is a type of magnet in which the magnetic field is produced by an electric current."

My first post - The ten most visited museums

Hi guys! This is my first post (I'm learning how to use this "app") and I’m going to talk you about the ten most visited museums in the world in the year 2013. Here you have a list with some information of them:

1. Musée du Louvre

This museum is located in Paris, the capital of France. More than nine million visitants have visited it so it is in the top of the list.

One of the most known paintings is here, its name is “La Gioconda”. Here is also a famous sculpture called "Venus de Milo".

2. British museum

It is in London. It had about 6.5 millions of visits, that's why it's too important.

This museum has eight mummies such as Tamut and some contemporary Japanese paintings.

3. Metropolitan Museum of Art
It is located in New York. In 2013, this museum was visited by about 6,200,000 people. There you can see the creative process of a famous designer, Charles James.
Of course if you prefer sculptures or ceramic objects you can find some of Jean Carriès' sculptures.

4. National Gallery
This museum is also in London. It's in the list because of its six millions visits and the history of the colours in painings that is showed.

5. Musei Vaticani
It's located in Rome. In summer, you can go there and have some fun listening to some Paganini's music while you are visiting that amazing museum. 

6. Tate Modern 
This museum, that is located in London too, has been visited more than five millions times. In that year (2013), there was an exposition about a famous painter, Henri Matisse.

7. National Palace Museum
This is located in Taipei and it had quite more than 4,500,000 visits in that year. Here you can usually find Chinese writtings.

8. National Gallery of Art
It is located in Washington, DC and around 4,000,000 people have visited it. There were many famous van Gogh's paintings.

9. Centre Pompidou
That museum is in Paris and near 3,800,000 visited the museum. There was an interesting exposition of some Francis Picabia's drawings that he drew for the famous magazine "Littérature"


10. Musée d'Orsay
That is the last one museum and like many museums in the list, it is in Paris. Some Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux's sculptures.

Well, that isn't many information because the information here is about 2013 and I haven't much time but the next post will be better than this.
